Eggs Stuck to Bottom of Egg Box

manog Feb 08, 2006 04:25 PM

Hello there,

My girl just layed her very first clutch of eggs this morning. Two beautiful healthy eggs. The problem is she dug out all of the vermiculite and layed the eggs on the plastic floor of the egg laying box. When i came in to retreive them i was unable because the eggs were stuck to the bottom. I tried a little bit of water but still could not move them. Has anyone experienced this? I just put the whole egg chambr in the incubator. I am afraid that because there is no vermic. beneath the eggs that it might cause problems. Let me know if you guys have any advice. Thanks.

if they don't make it, may i suggest using an 1 1/2" peat moss in the lay box next time around? good luck.

You can peel them off the floor.Just go slowly side to side in a rocking motion.

How likely are they to tear? I tried and it seemed like i was going to tear the egg. It also seemed like i was having to apply a good amount of pressure to the egg to free it. Do you think i should just leave them as they lie or will the plastic harm the egg?

I would suggest using bed a beast or echo earth for the lay box it coats the egg quickly and then it won't stick, just harder to see the viens when candling.

To get the eggs unstuck, drop a few drops of warm water on either side of the egg and slowly peel, back and forth in rocking motion. Add a few more drops as needed. This also works when the eggs are stuck to each other. I had this happen a few times last year and it worked great, and the eggs went on to hatch.

The eggs were layed earlier today. Will it be too late now to do it. Thanks for the advice!

well instead of giving u advice on what or how much to put in the lay box since every1's covered that.

just get them out. if they're healthy good. u can keep trying to get the off the box with ease but if u dont succede they're just gona sit and die. so u might as well rip them off and take a BIG chance rather than let them sit and rot.
