Flaking?

TalonArana Feb 08, 2006 06:00 PM

hey, a friend of mine has this boa right? and I was holding it today and I noticed it's scales were rubbing off on my hands, she says that's a bad molt and that she mists him any stuff to try and fix it.

Her other snakes molt cool, they come out in one big skin, but this one seems to molt in pieces, why is that? How can you fix it?

Bad sheds can be from many different things. If the animal is unhealthy, or the humidity level isn't correct (even this doesn't always result in bad sheds, but the likelyhood goes up the more extreme the humidity level reaches on the lower end). I have heard of some bad sheds resulting from animals that were treated with petrolium based lubricants (like vaseline) for mites or earlier shedding issues.
