WTF not eating...

paul112 Feb 08, 2006 06:04 PM

My young WTF hasn't eaten by itself since October. I have been force feeding it crickets (of adequate size) and other foods such as bloodworm and mealworms. What problems could have caused this and how can i solve it? I took it to the vet, but she said that there was so many possibilities and that he was so small that medication couldn't be administered. Im adding vitamins to the diet aswell. I got two in september, which i separated as soon as this one became ill. They are both in the same climate, and both have the same humidity. The ill one is about 5cm, and the crickets i feed are about ant size.
Please help
Paul

Are they from a breeder or wild caught? and sometimes younglings just get sick, you're probably helping your frog as much as you possibly can, and it may recover given time. Remember that white's are nocturnal and that they will only hunt at night. You probably already know this though. Good luck! Maybe someone else will be able to give you a bit more insight.

I think my frog owns a megaphone....

Some white's can be really picky too and will only eat in complete darkness. Are you making sure it's dark when you feed or is this not eating a new thing for your frog. If you've been hand feeding she may be to adjusted to that. Have you tried seperating her and feeding her in a different enclosure (like a bucket or something). Like just tossed in the crickets to see if she'll hunt for them? Has she always been housed with this other frog?

I got the frogs in october 2005 and they were the same size (maybe 3/4" This frog WAS eating when i got it, but the amount decresed until it refused to eat. I have separated the frogs and put the sick one in a separate tank, maybe only a 3gal, with about 10 tiny crickets. The frog refused to hunt them, and didn't manage to get any after about a week.

I cannot put the two back together as the eating one has grown double the size of the non-eating one, so it might eat the other.

Thankyou,
Paul
