What are you breeding this year?

lbrat Feb 08, 2006 06:26 PM

I spent most of the day bringing my rat snakes up from the basement and back into the snake room.
The way they were moving around this morning I should be feeding this weekend. This will be the first year trying to breed leucistic black rats and trans pecos. My corns are a sure thing and the quad. het. parents throw a rainbow of hatchlings.(pic)
Anyone have any interesting projects going on?

my Licorice Stick black rats that are het. Brindle will go this season and produce some nice looking W/S brindle black rats, and with a little luck i'll be cooking up some really nice TX rats.

my hypo Sonoran Boas have been locking up almost daily, so I should a few nice big litter of them as well...

fingers crossed...

hey how long were they down for?i am gonna keep mine down at least a few more weeks....been down since first week of december....well here's my projects-sorry,no rats,though-some nj temporalis;some amel northern pines;leucistic and patternless fla. pines;and some sticticeps(obx kings)...good luck with yours!

lbrat Feb 09, 2006 02:56 PM

They have been "down" since mid. november. My basement stays at a constant 55-58 degrees and seems to work out well as a hibernaculum (spelling?)
By the way, those N.J. temperalis are great little snakes!Good luck.

What kind of trans-pecos are you throwing this year?

I am pairing two triple hets (albino x silver blonde) together and hoping for some rare stuff like an albino, normal silvers, and even albino blonde, SNOW or SNOW BLONDE (neither has happened yet!).

I am putting my albino male trans-pecos with two silver blonde females in hopes for two clutches of triple hets!
And I am also pairing him up with a third Alpine locality female.

I'm going to put a normal male to a blonde female.Thats all I have in sub-ocs.Now you on the other hand have some really cool sub-ocs.I always wanted to get into albinos. They sure do have a look all their own.Good luck and keep us posted on your progress!

dustyrhoads Feb 10, 2006 01:26 PM

Thanks, and the same to you. I think what I have is a disease. LOL

I may have asked you before, but in what month do your sub-ocs breed?I have heard they can be late breeders and also have a longer incubation time.Your thoughts?

dustyrhoads Feb 09, 2006 08:55 PM

Incubation time is typical N.A. colubrid of 2 months, though sometimes a little longer.
For most people, they breed late (between April to July).
Good luck.

Nothing too interesting. I don't breed much. I'll be putting a couple Mandarins together and my calico taeniura, but they're still cooling. I've got my silver emoryi together in the 60's starting to warm up and they'll probably go this year for the first time. Also I'm going to try to breed an albino corn into my Southwestern ratsnakes group. The albino corn is an interesting snake who's line goes back to the 80's and has some Miami and Okeetee genes in it. Can't wait to see the rootbeers that match produces.

Good luck all....TC

My easterns are still chilling. I'll probably leave them down for another month. It's been a warm winter so I want them to get as much chance to cycle as possible.

Regards
John
