thats a good one. i say col-uh-brid. but i know alot of people say col-OO-brid.

Col-uh-brid just rolls off the tongue better, but then again, Latin's (or whatever it is) not really known for that, so maybe it's wrong? hehe

The issue is where the emphasis falls. I figure if collusion is pronounced with the emphasis on the second syllable, colubrid should be as well.
I don't believe there are right and wrong ways to pronounce it if people understand you.

I say Col-Oo-BrId

The Col-uh-brid pronunciation never occured and sounds British anyway.

The dictionary states it should be pronounced like call-ya-brid.

I've never heard a herpetologist pronounce it any other way, and it agrees with the usual rules for the english pronunciation of scientific latin:

http://www.saltspring.com/capewest/pron.htm#current

ie "u" is long, and "br" is treated as a single consonant, putting the stress on the next-to-last syllable.

It's koo-ba-lee-bruh, if you please! DOH!
