Prehensile Tail Skink Question

dragontears Feb 09, 2006 11:03 AM

I'm considering getting a Prehensile Tail Skink, but I'd like to get an idea of how other people are housing theirs. I've done my research on them and know what they require, but I'm getting the feeling that it is hard to keep the humidity up to where they like it. How do other MTS owners keep their humidity up? Can I see pics of your enclosures?

Thanks!

4 1/2 ft high
30 inches wide
18 inches deep
Day and night bulbs built into the top
When humidity gets too low I just mist the cage lightly.

Here is what I keep 3 of my groups in , the picture was taken during construction. there are actually some lizards in them as I tossed them in while i dismantled another cage lol. Any way the whole unit measures 6.5' x 6.5 'x 3', and is divided into 3 sections each 2 feet wide. The substrate is 6 inches of top soil, and then 2-3 inches of bark mulch. I mist once or twice daily with a one gallon sprayer. Keeps it good and humid, each cage is good for a group of 1.3

Devon...
Those are awesome! What are you using for the doors though?

The doors / dividers between sections are Plexi glass, with aluminum framing.

I have had my MTSs for almost three years now and im living in India where the level of humidity most of the year is around..20%?I try hard to keep the level of humidity around 40% inside my reptiles room but that is not easy because the humidifier raises the temperature of the room and India is already a VERY hot country. So my daily struggle is to keep the level of humidity high and the room temperature low what is not easy!

Only to say that if you keep a large and always clean bowl of water inside your monkey tail's cage he will bath each times he feels dehydrated so dont worry too much about humidity level. But keep an eye on his fingers and toes to avoid a shedding problem.
