What Kind of snake is this?

Carlosjimenez Jul 26, 2003 01:38 PM

I am located in Guatemala City, Guatemala. I live in a residential suburban area about 1500 mtr above sea level.
I have found 4 small snakes (aprox. 30 cm long, 10 mm diameter) in my bathtub. Their skin is red on top and light colored underneath, the head is black with a ring just below the head and some small black spots down the backs.

Could somebody advise me what they are. How could they have gotten into my bathtub (thrugh the drain or throug a window), etc.

Thanks in advance.

Carlos

Sounds like ringnecked coffee snakes (Ninia sebae sebae). I believe they are venomous, but do not know how much so. I doubt they are dangerously venomous, especially as youngsters. I have no idea how they may have entered your living quarters.

Por nada, Carlos. The limited info I have says 40 to 60 centimeters. Not very big at all.
