H.h.alverezi Black H.h.horridum

HorridumAngeli Feb 10, 2006 01:45 AM

Hi all here are two of my alverezi black horridum babies. I aquired the alverezi on a breeding loan and bred him to my super black H.h.horridum female. The h.h.alverezi has been in captivity since 1970 and still is in fine breeding shape. More evidance to my theory of Heloderma horridum living in excess of 60 to 70 years. I should hatch ten of these beauties but will not be selling any this year. H.h.alverezi & H.h.horridum do intergrade naturally in eastern Oaxaca Mexico. I believe my H.h.horridum because of the reduced yellow and lack of tail banding may be decendents of this locality. I think they should lose pattern with age and be absolutely beautiful.

Steve, good job as I know the work you put into what you love to do, heck just getting the alveresi had to be a circus of fun from a zoo? Yes, if you have a female from the crosses and breed it back to the alveresi male you will be almost home with 3/4 alveresi and I bet they will look like an alveresi. I did this myself with pure red aussie frilled dragons back in the mid 90s because all I had left were pure red males so I crossed them with normal aussies then raised them up and crossed them again to their Father, they looked like pure Red aussies. Hopefully it will work with the Alveresi to.
