Abbotts Okeetee

scottyo2u Feb 10, 2006 03:20 AM

I have been thinking about getting a Abbotts Okeetee this summer. Does any body have one? Do they have checkerboard tummies like the regular Okeetees? I have herd that Okeetees get big for corns do the Abbotts?
Thanks

I have heard that okeetees get bigger than average and I doubt that the abbotts are an exception. They have checkered stomachs also.

i have a nice pr. of abbotts that will be bred their first time real soon.the abbotts are my personal favorite okies

jyohe Feb 10, 2006 06:48 PM

all the same.....almost......

YES..Abbott has great .thick black bordered Okees......

YES he sells alot of them......

yes....Kathy Love used to be "THE" one to buy from"......

and before her I am sure there was another favorite breeder for great color.........

there are hundreds of people breeding great and ugly and ok and off the wall colored okees......

........Abbott can thank the internet for his success...

I am NOT in any way busting on him.I saw him at Daytona in 2002 and I loved his snakes......*(my friends got a bunch of them so I didn't have to).......

just reminding all you peoples that there are geat okees all over......

SO BUY A TRIO OF EACH PERSONS........LOL.......

I hate when I do that.......

my first batch of okees came around 1980 when I found out a guy in Lancaster ,Pa was selling corns for $15........so we went and got bunches of them....they grew up to be ok to great color..my best one got a flesh growth on her belly and was put down at around 5 years of age?.......one ate another and one ate a stone and died........and at least one lived to be about 18 ans one at least 24 years of age.....(at my brother -in -laws place.....that one with the growth was as good as or better than the pic you just posted...and they were from real -caught -in -the- plantation stock.........and hatched in a 20 gal aquarium half full of water and moss and dripping from an aquarium heater in it.....they should have all rotted....yet all hatched really big.......

.........

Yes, most Okeetees average slightly larger than normals, but I have found several 5 foot normals in the wild here in SE. North Carolina, which is pretty big for a WC corn.
Here's my Abbott Okeetee breeding pair: (top pic is the female, bottom pic is the male)

Just a question. Whats the checker belly have to do with anything? Is it highly sought? I ask because my Ghost Corn Casper has a checker belly.

Most corns have a checker belly of one kind or another. Amels, snows are just pink and white as opposed to black and white. I believe bloodreds, motleys, stripes are the only ones that don't have any kind of checker(may have forgetten a moph). It is common. My anery has almost a stripe look to her belly because the checkers are not visa-versa, but side by side.

ok Thanks for the clarification. Prince my Albino has just a plain white belly

That snake actually looks like an amel motley. that would be why it has a white belly.

amel motley? Tell me more? When I purchased it I think the enclosure saidAlbino Motley or Motley Albino but I guess those 2 would be the same.

Amel is albino. There was a discussion about this not too long ago. I noticed it was motley by the circular patterns all the way down the snake. Once you said it did not have checkers on the belly, just confirmed it. I have two motleys myself, but mine are regular motleys, not albino.

I have an 05 Abbotts. Unfortunately he keeps regurging his meals. I got him on 12/30, and since then he has only eaten one pinkie head on 1/30. He regurged twice before that and once after this past Tuesday. I started following Kathy Love's advice on regurges a few weeks ago. When he ate a pinkie head on 1/30 and digested it I was thrilled but he regurged again last week. My other three corns are kept in identical conditions and all eat fine. I can't believe how small he is now, he's about 14 inches long but thinner than a pencil. Anyways, sorry to ramble. Below is a pic of him. p.s.- yes he does have a checkered belly.

Very nice looking fellow. Why is it the pretty snakes are the problem feeders? I am also using the pinkie head method on my problem feeder. Since then, she has started to get a little muscle to her bones and actually moves around her cage. I was REAL worried for a long while. Talk about taking it to the edge. This little girl was nearly taking a slither over it! The only pic of her that I have uploaded is the one with two other babies. My problem feeder is the anery. She is so black and really beautiful. I really hope she makes it. Good luck with yours

That may be my next corn, an Anery. I have a buttet, abbotts, amel bloodred, and candy cane. I'm so worried about him. He looks so weak now. His neck is literally as thin as a lollipop stick. He's not much bigger than a hatchling. Good luck with yours. He's a handsome fellow. Glad to hear he's putting weight on.

I've been doing the pinkie head about every three days, making sure she has heat, fresh water. hope your little guy makes a turn around as well

This may not have anything to do with your little one's regurg problem, but....My Abbott okeetee, Diablo, started regurging his meals at about 7 months old. I read in a long ago post in this forum a suggestiion to remove the water for 24 hours after feeding. I watched him the next time he finished a meal; sure enough, he guzzled a LOT of water and a few hours later it all came back up, mouse and all. Since then, I always remove the water, and he's never done it since (he's an '03 model). Good luck!

cochran Feb 12, 2006 09:48 AM

that is a gorgeous okeetee! gotta love those thick black borders.

xblackheart Feb 12, 2006 06:39 PM

OOOHH. I want a snake that looks just like yours. That is the exact example of the okeetee that I want. Do you have any pics of it as a baby, so I know what to look for? All the okeetees from this area have such small black bands.

Thank you very much for your kind remarks.....I think Diablo is very handsome (I could be a little prejudiced!) I got him from Lee Abbott at Daytona in 2003; Lee is a great guy to deal with. Here's a pic of Diablo just after I got him....he's changed a lot! Gotta love those okeetees!

johninbs Feb 12, 2006 07:14 PM

Beautiful Okeetee, may be the nicest I've ever seen. Thanks for the water tip, but my snake passed away today.

OMGosh....I'm so sorry to hear that.

flaskeeter Feb 13, 2006 04:41 PM

Oh John, I'm so very sorry about your loss. It's just terrible to lose a pet. Please take care........Skeeter
