Jacksons - New Pic

vegasbilly Feb 10, 2006 11:28 AM

Here's a pic of my beautiful male. Before I go any further I need to thank Dr. Rick Staub, herper and fisherman beyond compare! His experience w/this ssp. and willingness to share have enabled me to do really well w/these gems.

I'm getting another sub-adult female today - isn't waiting on the UPS man to bring the newest addition the closest thing to X-Mas or what??

I moved him into a new enclosure - the screen cages from Reptile Haven that sit on a tub. It took him a few days to appreciate his new palatial digs, but he's back to feeding so I know all is well. I ended up keeping 5 of the babies from the first "litter" - they're so much that goes into getting them to this point I just can't bring myself to sell anymore! That will probably change down-the-road but for now its Jacksons, Jacksons, and more Jacksons!

He is so beautiful! Why do all of these chameleons have to be so gorgeous? It's not wonder everyone has multiple species. They're all too pretty to choose! I'm glad that you kept some of your off-spring. Can't wait to se pics of your new Jackson. diane

Love is in the air! Or at least something is. I put the female in the male's cage - alot different than Veiled courtship wherein the male has all of the moves of a drunken Frat Boy! He was very patient w/his displays, gaping and fronting her. It took almost 45 minutes for them to copulate - they're tied up as I type this.

Can't get a good pic through the screen so no Repti-Porn today! The new female came in later in the day than expected. I needed to go pick up an anniversary present for my wife (kinda' important ya' know?) but was worried I might miss the FedX guy. We'll I was talking to the guy on the phone who shipped her and here comes the delivery. Kudos to Nick Mole at First Choice Reptiles. I got the original pair from him and the new female as well - fabulous animals - well hydrated, great body weight, and overall great service.

Bill,

Good to hear that she came in fine. I am also very happy to hear about the little babies, and I am very pleased to learn of your success with them. Please keep us posted on their progress so we can all benifit and compare notes.

Great looking Jackson.Do you house them outside at all? If so can you give me some pointers/ Housing, temp, water ect. Thanks MATT

I put them outside this time of year for about an hour or so 3 days a week. Ambients here in Vegas are climbing - 70s so I'm real careful. My backyard is protected from breezes so its actually warmer. Even the babies I've held back go right into the sun for the whole time I have them out. When the adults even THINK about gaping in they all go!

I mist them as soon as they're in the sun and at least one more time during the hour they're outside.

For all the talk about humidity and Jacksons - I don't EVER approach the proscribed %! Its nearly impossible here. But, they do just fine if I make sure they stay on the cooler side. I spray them about 4 times a week and drip them for 45 minutes a day.

I had a person I've been corresponding with lose 60% of her babies and I suspect its because they never got a chance to dry out between mistings. My babies are misted 1 hour after lights on and 1 hour before lights off. Hope this helps!
