new gecko

I have had a gecko for 2 and a half weeks now. I've followed all the common advice for housing. The only problem is feeding. The gecko is about 6" long and probably 5 months old, and only eats every few days. He looks healthy and acts pretty healthy. His only abnormal activity is he is pretty much in heat(walks around his cage licking himself and shooting out what I'm pretty sure is semen). He deficates a decent ammount every other day. So back to the problem: His eating. He really seems less and less interested in food and more interested in what is going on in the room. I'm guessing he just isn't used to his new set up. But since I've had him he's only attempted to eat every 2 or three days. Every two days he eats either 3 mealworms, 3 crickets or 7 waxworms. Other days he just doesn't eat at all...licks the calcium off the bugs and doesn't eat them. If I just leave the worms in a bowl in the tank he doens't notice them. If I stick them in front of him he is more interested in climbing my hand than eating. Also he seems to have lost his drive to hunt down the food. Instead of lunging and attacking the worms he just leans in and eats them. Where do I go from here to get him eating normally?

Not sure about the in heat part but his eating sounds normal to me. I offer mine food every 4 days and they are fat and healthy, each one will take 5-7 supper mealworms and the ocasional pinkie howevery they are much older than yours. Bother kirmy and Alberto seemed to loose there bhunting drive shortly after I got them, they use to get excited and shake there tail and dow right atack there prey but now adays they do like you said, just kinda lean in and pick it up. Do you leave a calcium dish in there for them 24-7? I am not sure how important it is but when I got Kirmy the pet store gave me a little shell and said to keep it in the enclosure with calcium in it for them. Hope this helped a little

Now it's been since monday since he's eaten. I really don't understand where I'm going wrong. The only confusing thing is he really does look healthy.

As long as he's healthy and fat and not showing other signs of sickness, dont worry about it. During the winter my leos slow down on eating.

What are your temps on the warmside on top of the substrate? If they are too low that can cause him to reduce his eating. They should be maintained between 88-93 degrees.
