i recently was away for a few days and my sister-in-law was caring for simon. she said that he did not come out often like he usually does. since i have been home, he has not been eating like he normally does. he always finishes the crickets in a matter of minutes and washes them down with a few mealworms. he now does not eat all of his crickets and has no interest in mealies. the last time he ate them, he had three and when i woke up the following morning there were three dead mealworms next to his feces. i dont think he pooped them out whole, so maybe he regurgitated them? this evening i happened to be passing by when he had come out to poop. he seemed to be having a lot of difficulty and i noticed that the area directly under his pooper was swollen and red. it almost looked like it had been blown up like a balloon. whats wrong with him? help!

i would take him to the vet RIGHT AWAY! he might be a she and having problems passing an infertile egg as well, which you would still need to go to the vet right away!

It sounds like he has a prolapse which can be critical. What substrate do you have him on? If it is a prolapse you need to get him on to moist papertowels right away. I've never had to deal with this myself as of yet, but the advise I always see given is to apply Karo syrup or honey to it with a Q-tip or Preparation H to help reduce the swelling. Do this 3-4 times a day, unless is goes all the way back in on it's own you need to get him to a Vet ASAP.
