Pixie frog question

Ess Feb 10, 2006 09:38 PM

Ok. So I've just inherited a pixie frog from a friend who didn't want it anymore. He's a small thing still, so I'm guessing he's quite young.

Now, I've got pretty much all the information down for the habitat/tank, but only one thing evades me: how much and how often do I feed this thing? He apparently was fed around 8 crix and a butterworm once a week. What's the recommended amount of food for pixies? For babies and adult, is it the same? Any info will be appreciated

Thanks!

all food items vary based on the size of your frog and the the size of the food. for a pixie about the size of a quarter, i would feed any of the following every 2-3 days:
4 medium (approx. 1/2" crickets or
2-4 mealworms, depending on size or
1-2 small earthworms/redworms 1-2 1/2" or
1 small goldfish 1" or less or
2 small rosie reds 1 1/2" or less
you should dust your insects once every two weeks or so for one feeding.

Ah, thank you! And for an adult do I up just the size of the preys or also the amount? A pet shop told me it would eat an average of 100-150 cricket a week as an adult or a few adult mice. Is that true?

Anyway, thank you

100-150 adult crickets a week, even for a huge pixie is a lot of crickets. i have two of my own, one about the size of a baseball and the other a softball, and they each get one large hopper mouse or one small to medium sized adult mouse every 3-4 weeks, same as for my adult pacman. i also substitute large earthworms and grasshoppers when available, but i see no point in feeding crickets as the staple of the diet for large frogs, because mine are not full grown, but will happily eat a dozen or more crickets at a time each, and will still be looking for more food. the important thing to remember is that pixies and pacmans will eat until you stop feeding them, they seem to have no control because in the wild they would eat when food is readily available and "hibernate" when it is scarce.

Oh, thanks. I was getting scared when they told me that. He's an adorable little thing right now. Thank you so much for your information
