winter is almost over

uroman24 Feb 11, 2006 09:41 AM

spring is coming early to New York. This week all of my uros ended their winter funk and resumed life. The picture will tell the rest, hopefully I'm gonna be a daddy. This was pretty cool its the first uro mating I've ever witnessed, I'm actually surprised the females ever let it happen, its not overly pleasant. Oh yes please pardon the pic, DO NOT BE AN IDIOT AND USE PLEXIGLASS AS YOUR WINDOW/DOORS FOR OBVIOUS REASONS. I will be changing them over shortly. I scare myself sometimes, I build big beautiful custom cages and then cheap out on the glass, at least the uros don't care.

My female also came out of her winter funk and started eating like crazy this week.

Too bad winter just really began today. Snow wise that is.

Good Luck Uroman,
I too have a pair of reds and they are just starting to come out of brumation! I hope I’m as lucky as you have been so far too.

Yes it gets scratched, but it seems to have more insulating capactity than glass which translates to lower energy bills (lower wattage emitters) and warmer cages for teh winter. All my plexi cages run warmer than equally sized glass and are also easier to handle and build with. I can rip plexi through my tablesaw and all other tools while glass wouldn't respond too well. My stack of Uro condos is many pounds lighter having used Plexi, the lightness on its own permitting a lighter overall structure.
