day geckos

viper9 Feb 11, 2006 12:20 PM

Sorry, I don't have any pictures to post but I dohave a question, I've been looking into getting some day geckos and noticed something strange about the one in the picture below. It's a gold dust day gecko but none of the others I've seen have this coarse texture. Does anyone know if it's normal?

Thanks
Mike

I am not sure of the answer to your question, but if nobody else in here has an idea...then you could try here:

Its perfectly normal. I've kept/bred P. laticauda, P. dubia and Phelsuma tend to have that "grainy" texture...it just is more evident in that photo because of the lighting, most likely. Hope that helps,

Thanks for the help. I am probably going to get Gold Dusts and can know what that texture is next time I'm browsing.

Thanks

Good choice - they're easily my favorite of the Phelsuma I've kept/bred (P. m. grandis, P. dubia, P. laticauda). Have fun with them.

I have one more question before I stop bothering. If you look at the picture of the day gecko that I posted in my original post the laegs look kind of grayish and transparent. It's probably just my but I've got to make sure because I paranoid about this kind of stuff.

Thanks again

Haha, its alright. The legs look fine to me. P. laticauda is really pretty darn robust. I've had some WC and CB ones - both have done equally well for me. The biggest thing to remember with Phelsuma - give 'em space and give 'em cover. Crowded animals will stop feeding. If you want live plants, Sanseveria and Pothos are great plants for the tank.
