A butter tub with a hole cut in the top and half filled with damp peat or sphagnum moss should work.

I use small Glad or Ziploc containers with a hole cut in them. Burn the cut edges with a match so they are not sharp. Inside I've used Forest Bed, Spaghnum Moss or Vermiculite and had Geckos lay in all three substrates.
