I was checking to see if you can legally obtain a eastern Indigo in the state of Texas? Any input would be great.

There have been a few forum discussions to this regard, so a search of the topic would be warranted.
In the past, the State of Texas afforded Drymarchon protection at the genus level, instaed of the species and sub-species level. Such protection made all Drymarchon spp. illegal to maintain in captivity. Recently, there has been some discussion indicating this is no longer the case and that only D. m erebennus are afforded protection within the state.
I would suggest you contact the Texas Parks and Wildlife Dept. to this regard (512) 389-4800. If possible, try to speak with representatives of both the wildlife management and enforcement divisions, just to be certain everyone is on the same page. Should you get the green light, be sure to maintain all of your documentation and keep a chart, indicating the phenotypic differences between D. couperi and D. m erebennus handy…
