>>That rack is awesome. Just about the perfect compromise of weight, cost, and function.
Amazing! That's what I was going for however I havn't weighed the entire rack so I don't know what the overall savings on weight was. Labor on the other hand was intense but its my rack and my time. Besides I would build a cage for an animal I don't even own. Check that I did!
>>Remind us again what the frames out made out of? I thought you were using strips of good quality plywood but it looks like solid wood of some kind.
Looks can be deceiving, my old friend! LOL It is high quality plywood otherwise it would not have the same strength. I plan on weight testing a finished panel to failure so we will see what the strength really is. Obviously this will be an unheated unneeded shelf. But the destruction will be fun. The fronts are solid if that was the mistake.
>>Are you going to wrap the back and sides of the rack with Reflectix?
Not going to say it didn't cross my mind. Is your vision rack lined with reflectix? The room it will be used in maintains a temp of about 80 degrees so I think it will be fine without. Although I wish I could have your radient heaters.
I have more plans for this design in other caging so this hasn't been the last you've seen of it.
Jeremy
By the way these are the cages I built for animals I don't own. My 3 stack Bearded dragon cages.
