Parents babies differences

smith710 Feb 12, 2006 02:16 AM

I was just wondering what the differences in the babies are if the parents were wild caught or the parents were captive breed. I just bought a couple or captive breed Guyana babies from wild caught parents... Is it a bad thing if the parents were wild caught or does it really make a difference? The babies seem like they are in good shape... very active and docile...

IMO there would be no difference whatsoever in the babies temperment whether they came from wild caught or captive bred parents. Ok, that sentence doesn't seem quite right, but you get my drift.

So what your saying is the babies aren't affected at all by being born from wild caught parents or captive breed parents as long as the babies were captive breed? right?

I'm not an expert, but in my opinion based on what I know about nature vs. nurture, I would say not even one single bit. Same as if you took 2 people who had been living in the woods all of their lives and they had a baby which was raised from birth in our current "society", it also would show no difference at all (assuming it was raised by "civilized" people and not the original parents- except possible differences from being raised by adoptive parents, which is what you are to the snake ). That's my two cents... Possibly some would argue it. We'll see.

To clarify...This sentence: Same as if you took 2 people who had been living in the woods all of their lives and they had a baby which was raised from birth in our current "society", it also would show no difference at all FROM OTHER HUMANS RAISED SOCIETY (other than the normal unique differences humans exhibit within our society).

Ok I understand what you are saying and I thought the same thing but I just wanted to make sure.... but would there be a better chance of there being something wrong with them.. such as internal parasites or anything?

Assuming you bought from a good guy breeder who's snakes are not infested with parasites and/or that the newborns weren't housed with the WC parents- MY common sense tells me the chances of there being more of a chance of parasites etc... with babies born in captivity from WC compared to CB would be next to 0. Again, I'm not an expert, so maybe some others who have personal experience can confirm this or tell me i'm an idiot.

No problem. I wish someone else would of chimed in too to either confirm or deny my opinion. The parasite part of it i'm not as sure about...But the tempermant issue I believe is solid.

Hey again, maybe repost the question and direct it more towards the parasite issue, and I will keep my nose out of it this time, laughin. Possibly no one else said anything because they agree. I really think that with the parasite issue, there isn't any more chance of having problems with WC parents, but again, that's assuming the parents were parasite free, and if they weren't that the babies weren't housed with the parents. Again, I'm not sure on this and it couldn't hurt to ask again in the forum or possibly over at faunaclassifieds.
