At what age do you start to breed your male Eastern Indigo's? Do they need to be similar in size to the female to keep from being killed and/or consumed? Thx.

I would suggest that males be at least 6 feet long.

The youngest Estern male I've bred was just under 5 ft. long and 2 yr, 5 mo. Female was a little shorter. Having said this, I don't advocate breeding small females bcause they're prone to becoming egg-bound. In past years males were always larger than females, not by choice, but by coincidence. As long as both snakes have been well fed for months prior to breeding, I wouldn't be concerned if male is shorter.
