goregrind Feb 12, 2006 09:49 AM

im thinking of picking up a pair of black milks this summer and i was wondering how much they have in common with corns.

ive heard that milks are usually less cannibalistic than kings does this hold true to blacks?(cannibalism is my biggest concern)

ive also heard that bmilks dont do very good over 85F is this true?

Both do well in captivity.

Black milks will get larger than corns on average. My black milk adults are around 5 feet but they can frequently get to 6 feet.

It is also true that black milks thrive at room temperature and 85 degrees in their cage would be too warm in my opinion. I keep mine at room temp with a low watt light on one side of their cage for lighting (also creates a very slight temp gradient). Corns would require a warmer environment.

Both black milks and corns are typically great eaters and grow quickly. Generally, both are calm as well and don't mind being handled. I'm sure there's always an exception though. Either one is a great choice.

I don't keep my milks together, so I can't share any experiences with cannibalism.

I know several breeders that house adult milks together without problem, but I have never done so. I'm told its more of an issue with younger snakes and housing snakes together that are of noticably different sizes.
