Right Filter for my RES?

pinkcamel316 Feb 12, 2006 01:16 PM

Hello all. Right now I've got a Whisper 10i for a 10 gallon tank. It only filters the waste from my RES, right now it's shell is only about 1 and 3/4 inches long. The filter isn't doing a very good job of picking everything.

My question is, what filter should I get for him now to properly cycle the water? I've heard I should get a filter that should power 3-4 times what I have. So maybe a 30-40 gal filter for my 10 gal tank? Opinions are appreciated, thank you.

Hi i'm not too sure if this will be any help but i have got a eheim canister filter (2026) up and running for about a month now and it's such a good filter if serviced right it will last years, so pay the money now buy the best and keep your turtles nice and happy and CLEAN. I have a eheim in a 30 gal tank and it's designed for a 92 gal tank and does just under 1000 lph, i put the spray bar at the top and it really moves the water around maybe a little too much. So definitely get the biggest and best filter you can afford at the moment it's just better all round and should work out cheaper in the long run! Have a look around on the internet for your size tank look at a 2232 or 2234, or even look at getting a good quality internal, With a little more power in it tank yours at the moment! If your not planning to upgrade your tank soon! so many choices!!
Good luck.

Would a filter for a 66 gallon tank be too much for 10 gallon tank? Keeping in mind that I'll upgade to a larger tank in the months to come.
