Location for outdoor "tube" cage for Panther

dianedfisher Feb 12, 2006 07:01 PM

Hi again, all! I assembled a "tube" cage similiar to some I found on adcham.com for outdoors when the weather warms up. Thraxxis will be approximately 7 months old by the time it is warm enough to put him outside. He is an Ambanja Panther. What location around my home would be a suitable outdoor environment? My bedroom deck has early morning sun and then shade. My pool deck is sun most of the day, but I'm planning on installing a wood pergola this Spring. My front porch is covered and has Southern exposure through about 2 o'clock each afternoon but the tube could be placed in the shade. My back porch doesn't usually get sun until late afternoon and then it is Western exposure but very warm. Also, what type of hydration do you use for outdoor exposure? Misting at least twice daily as per indoor or do you do something else? Thanks!
Diane

Well i think it would be best it you put your cage in an area that recieves mostly morning sun...afternoons get WAY to hot for the majority of chameleons..panthers included...After 12:00 that chameleon should only have a little corner of his cage with sunlight...this gives him a spot to bask and a huge area to cool off, which he will need to..It is also very nice if your cage would be in a spot were it gets evening sunlight too. This gives your chameleon the oppritunity to heat up a little bit before he sleeps (is gonna stay outside overnight?)

Since you are going to water him only twice a day mist him for 5 minutes in the moring and 3 at night. This gives him the chance to get plenty hydrated for the day.It is also nice if you give him a dripper that will run during the middle of the day just in case he gets thirsty..

Could you post pics of your cage...it sounds VERY interesting in looks..

My kids have my digital camera. I'll post later today, he's supposed to bring it to work. LOL
I will use a dripper for sure. I may even use a fine mist spray hooked up to my hose and timer. If I use a black hose and put it in the sun, the water will be warm when the timer comes on. I live in So. Indiana so the temps get pretty warm in the summer. The cage is very easy to move, so in the spring he will probably come in at night. Diane
