Question about Johnson Controls thermostats.

Patton Feb 12, 2006 09:54 PM

I plan on useing Johnson Controls A419 thermostats for my reptile racks and cages, with rheostats. I was wondering if it's absolutely critical to double up the thermostats. I understand the concept of haveing one fail and the other kicking in as a back up, but I need 5 and at roughly $50 wholesale that's quite an exspence. 10 would put me in the hole big time. Let me know what you think.

Phil,
You don't have to use double t'stats. It is just a precaution that some people like to use. The relay in the Johnson Controls are pretty good relays. I have been using them when everyone was using Ranco t'stats and have yet to have a problem. I believe they are the best on/off t'stats out there. Hope this helps.

The dual configuration is just a safety. As long as your not using upwards of 1400 or so watts then I woudl not worry about it. 50 bucks wholesale, thats kind of high
