Possible RI , please help

demetrius Feb 12, 2006 10:19 PM

Hi , I have a nine and a half foot female BCI . Last night when I took her out she seemed fine and prefectly healthy , but this afternoon she was whistling . I did a mouth check and she has a bit more saliva than normal but other than that looked fine . She has had no open mouth breathing , popping or other noises and is pretty active . I raised her temps in the enclosure and am keeping a close eye on her just incase . Before I took her out to cage clean and she was near her water bowl so she may have been drinking before, could handling her after drinking cause the whistling , just because she was not doing it last night or this morning when I checked on her . Thanks .

There was just a post on here a couple of days ago about the same thing, it might still be on here. When was the last time she shed? She might be about to shed, some snakes do that when they are about to shed. My adult Sharp albino just did the same thing last week except for he was making the popping noise also and he was headed back to his damp mulch box. The next morning there was a ball of shed in the cage and no more whistling or popping.

I am not sure when her last shed was , as she has only been in my care for a month . Hopefully that is all it is but she doesnt look like she is going into shed . If it starts to get worse , I guess I will take her to a vet just to be safe . Is there anything else I should do for her ? Thanks .

If it is a RI just keep her temps up until you see a vet. I have a 5 or 6 year old hog island that had RI when I recieved her and after getting her treated a few times she still has a slight wheeze that I think will be with her forever. It does not affect her and as a matter of fact i think she is gravid now. If It is not bad I would wait a few days to see if she goes into shed and if she does not i would take her in to the vet. Hopefully some others will give you their opinion so you can have more insight but if it were me I would wait a couple of days to see if she goes into shed. Hope this helps.
