my dumerils is all wet

recently bought a 3 foot dumerils boa from a local pet store that i trust, i broght him home, and all he does is sit and soak in his water bowl ive up'ed the humidity to 65-70 and he still does it please help me!!!

nothing wrong with that. he could be in shed or your temps are too high and hes just sitting in the coolest part of the tank. snakes will get themselves "prepped" for a shed. just because they arent visibly in shed doesnt mean that one isnt a couple days away. besides, what did you want him to do...make coffee for you while swinging on a trapeze?

Or he could have mites. Coming from a pet store, that wouldn't be any stretch of the imagination. Check the water for black flecks(mites). If you find them in the water, treat for mites. Also look the snake over for mites. A good way to search them out is at night with just a flashlight. You should be able to see them moving about. Also pay attention to the head as they like to hide in the rim of the eyes, labials, etc. At 65% humidity, there shouldn't be any need for the snake to soak to aid in shedding. First thing I'd look for is mites, then go from there. Keep us posted, take care!

i finally got my snake put in its permanent terranium, and for some reason he is no longer staying in the water bowl. humidity and temps the same, he may have just been getting secure with the environment.
