hybrid ideas

goregrind Feb 13, 2006 06:11 AM

my ideas concern mexican black kings, black milks, and corns.
since mbks have no pattern, the make solid colored hybrids, bred to a corn would it be solid red?
bred to a black milk would it be solid red then fade to black or would it start black?

it is hard to say. i just ordered a female m.b.k. and a female albino nelsons both of which i plan to breed to my sinacorn. i too am hoping for a solid red mbk sinacorn mix but some mbk's do have pattern and since their is no way to tell with hybrids you just have to hope and prey

No. A friend in Canada bred her mbk to a corn. Patterned animals. Some look kinda cool.

I don't believe that is possible. I have bred many hybrids and get fooled all the time. I bred a 99% yellow albino banana calf king to a female Honduran-Pueblan that looks just like a orange phase Pueblan but is the size of a Honduran. She is even banded Red-Black-Orange. I figured the babies would come out with all kinds of weird patterns with some orange and red showing up since the Albino Banana Calf was almost solid yellow with hints of an aberrant pattern. I was wrong. All the babies were basically black and yellow with stripes down the back. One was slightly aberrant but again not a hint of red, orange or even brownish or a bronze color, they were just black and yellow. I have had Sinaloan x Calf and Jurrasics which are Honduran and Calf and the babies at least had some hint of the red/orange under the scales or between them showing up as brown or bronze. I talked with a guy that sells the Imperials Pueblans and he has some of the original adults and he told me the originals had no red or orange but were black and white. Makes me wonder if the Pueblan in them hides the color for the first generation. He said his first generation threw red and orange babies when they bred. I am doing the same breeding again this year and in the future we will see what happens. I think the breedings you are planning may be a waste of time unless you also throw in some pattern or color aberrancy with it. Albino Blood Red Corn to it or some stiped motley hypo lavendar or something extra to kick it up a notch. One thing about the Imperial Pueblans which I now am doing more with is the have produced an almost solid orange albino several generations later. I think the Imperials have the best possiblity of all hybrids. The eat great, grow fast, have great pattern variancies and have the albino gene as well. The Calf and Pueblan match up well as far as size and I see no downside at this point to them.
Back to your original question I did wonder years back if an albino Honduran x's a Black Milk would eventially throw an albino intergrade of the two that would start out as a normal looking albino honduran and gradually turns solid white with the black milk influence or would the red still be there to show up. Always wondered but not enough to try it.

that wasnt my original question but i dont think it would fade to white. because as they grow they get more melanin, the dont lost the other colors, so if there was no melanin the wouldnt change. now hypo or anery would be interesting

the black milk question, amelanism would be a tri-color,because the black is over-toning the juvinile colors. In my opinion.Chris
