Here is what I found on another forum. Looks like we will see more news soon...

"I am only 14 and have 4 colubrids which wer my first snakes then I got a rtb 2 years ago and I got a female retic this year from bob clark, And I am right now talking my dad int leting me rescue a venomoid gaboon viper. And I am for sure getting a green anaconda within a few months I was going to get her sooner but rescueing the gaboon will set me back a
little bit money wise "

"The surgury was done by a vet I am getting it from a local reptile shop and I now the owner very well, the snake was given to the pet store along with alot of other animals the guy who gave them to the store lost his job a few months ago and can no longer aford to feed all his animals."

Tell me again why the government feels the need to step in on these snake issues?

Real scary stuff Gavin. Heck, a 14 year old has no business even owning a large constrictor and its always disheartening when a reputable breeder like Bob Clark sells one of his retics to a kid who can't even put a legible sentence together. I'm sure the father assumed responsibility but if I knew that a 14 year old was in the equation, I would refuse to sell the animal. These are scary times we live in. With the large number of venomous reptiles available on the market accompanied by the number of incompetent people purchasing them, we will only continue to see tragic incidences take place until, in the near future, we see state by state jumping on the all out venomous ban bandwagon. As much as I am all for private rights to own venomous herps, I can't say I would be too disappointed which really stinks for the responsible keepers/hobbyists out there.

I would hope Bob Clark sold the snake to an adult and the 14 year old is just a child of someone who keeps retics. It seems reasonable a kid would state those are his snakes for "bragging rights" over the internet.

But as far as a pet store having a venomoid gaboon to adopt out (or more likely sell)...all thoughts from how they got it...to where it goes are scary.

There are so many people who are into snakes just for the money, i doubt bob clark is much different

Granted I cannot speak for Mr. Clark's motivation...but it is not like he needs the money on a normal retic sale.

please tell me that this kid is not in south carolina... there
is a rather nefarious dealer of venomoids in those parts...

I suspect he is here in Austin TX where we have a store that does this sort of thing! Most of the time they are intact venomous.

the store, in south carolina, that i am referring to, does the same thing. the only difference is that their 'specialty' is o. hannah.
