Mouse size...

kdblack Feb 13, 2006 03:15 PM

Heya,

Got a question for all you long-time snake people...

I know about the mouse/food size being about the girth of the snake at it's largest, but is there a rule of thumb, in terms of age or anything to have a general idea when to move up to the next size mouse/food?

The reason, is that I'm considering using one of the feeder mouse breeders to order a small bulk order, and you can usually mix-and-match sizes to get to the next lower cost bracket. But I'm not 100% sure when to estimate going up to fuzzies from pinkies, etc.

These sites would save me probably .30c-.50c per mouse, which would add up after a while.

Also, how long do they stay "good" in the freezer? (freezerburn, spoil, etc)

Any input would be helpful, and thanks in advance =)

Kevin

I move up when my snake is eating 2 of what I give him for ex lets say he is eating 2 large pinkies than I go to fuzzies .
Eating 2 fuzzies than I go to hopper.

I have kept frozen mice in freezer for a year in those sealed bags. I just pop one out fold bag put rubber band on bag to keep it shut put that in a plastic bag and close that.

A year is a long time I prefer to keep them no more than 6 months now but they ate them no problem and they looked fresh even at a year as long as bag resealed tightly.
