beardie with sunken eyes....PLEASE HELP

gothlic768 Feb 13, 2006 09:12 PM

a few weeks ago i posted a problem in this forum about a problem i had at my ex-high school about 2 beardie babies i brought to them about 2 yrs ago.. i finally got sick of the mistreatment of them and the teacher told me to take them so i did...they acused me of stealing them b/c i refused to give them back to that horrible place...they were still small when i got them back(only about 10 inches long at 2 yrs) they gained weight quickly and even grew a little ..when i looked at them today the smaller one of the two eyes are sunken in and she is not very active or alert.. I fed them crickets and she wouldnt "hunt"... i soaked her and she drank a lot of water and i also gave her an incestivores (sorry i cant spell)first aid powder that u mix with water and then some Nekton-MSA vitamins mixed with water aswell.... do u have any other ideas about what i should do??
thanks
katie

Get them both to a vet, who knows what they picked up in a public school... Other than that she sounds dehydrated at least, try some pedialite.

Oh man she looks bad off. Try this

1 part repcal juvie pellet (powdered in a coffee grinder)
1 part veal babyfood
a little Ca w/d3 and vit dust
enough pedialite to make it soupy
nuke it for 30 sec
add more pedialite to keep it soupy
feed with needless syringe

See if that helps, anything you can get down her will help. Also soak her, she is massively dehydrated. I've pulled a few back that looked that bad but the success rate is marginal at best. Good luck and get to a vet asap. If you're any good with a needle a subQ injection of liquids might help, also might want to add some pedialite to the bath.

sorry to hear your dragon passed away. from the condition he was in in the pictures, it would have been very difficult to save him. an immediate visit to a vet m ay have helped, as the vet would have been able to inject her with liquids and nutrition directly to her bloodstream, which is much faster th an going through the digestive tract. he could also have been riddled with parasites and prolonged malnutrition. even with a vet visit right away, it may not have been possible to save him, if he was already too far gone.

If it was indeed parasites, which it sounds like it was, you need to get your other dragons to a vet as they have been exposed. It's not worth losing your entire collection over.
