Granacondas

SNY31 Feb 13, 2006 09:37 PM

In a short time, I will be receiving a pair of granite-phase yellow anacondas. I have worked with the green subspecies before, but was wondering if anyone could tell me a little about the husbandry of the yellow, i.e. breeding age, size, etc. Any information you can provide will be extrememly helpful. Thank you so much in advance.

Well, there are not any subspecies of anaconda...the greens are a separate species.

If you are getting granite anacondas they are from the Mark Petros line of yellows and they are the most amazing eaters I have ever seen (I am thinking of sharing a McGriddle with them...and I bet they would take it). They are extremely easy to keep if you know how to deal with a larger snake that will keep you on your toes. I keep them without large water dishes (like Kelly Haller does with his greens) and they eat great and always shed in one perfect piece.

Only tip I really have for you is to keep it perfectly clean in their enclosure. And this will be a tough task because my yellows are by far my biggest mess makers in my snake room.

Thank you for your reply. And, yes, that was silly of me...of course there are TWO species of anacondas, at least that I know of. Thanks again for the tips. Take care.

Green and Yellow anacondas are different species but they are not the only species. There are four total.

Eunectes murinus (green anacondas)
Eunectes notaeus (yellow anacondas)
Eunectes beniensis (Bolivian species)
Eunectes deschauenseii (once thought to be exclusive to marajo island)

Hey Gavin can you enlighten us on those other two? What are they like? Size? Colour?ect.

Their sizes are roughly in between E. murinus and E. notaeus. E. deschauenseii looks kind of like a hybrid of green and yellow anaconda.

Do a search on Lutz Dirksen and Eunectes beniensis if you would like to see the most information on the net I am aware of.
