Using Gourds for hides

SSScott Jul 26, 2003 06:31 PM

Hey everyone,

I was thinking about using some dried gourds for hides...

Is there any reason that any of you know of that I shouldn't???

Of course I would sterilize it well before placing in cage, (completely wash down with nolvasan, put in dishwasher without soap, then put in the deep freeze for 3 or 4 weeks) But does anyone know of any toxicity issues with gourds? Lemme know.

Scott

I've seen gourds used as bird boxes and for smaller critters like lizards and hamsters. I've even seen a hermit crab try to use one as a shell...so i don't think there should be any toxicity issues....

Could be hard to extract him if you had to. On the other hand, its real easy to move him around for cleaning, etc.
