jwason Feb 14, 2006 08:30 AM

What is the best substrate for a humid hide box?

I used spagnum moss for my Eastern Hognose, and they loved it. I just took an old butter tub, cut a hole in the lid, and filled it half way with damp spagnum.

I keep Tri-colors (Lystrophis Pulcher) and they love a moist hide of moss. They are in the moist hide 90% of the time.
Your going to love these snakes, very great captives to keep.

Ive only had them for a couple of days but they both refused f/t pinks. Ill try one more time with live pinks then I think Ill scent them if they dont take live.

Your 2 tri-colors look very heatlthy. Don't be too concerned about feeding them right away. When I purchased my pair, the male took 8 days before 1st feed and the female took 20 days. You may want to try splitting the f/t pinky's head, creates more scent. It worked with my snakes for the first few feedings, then they just took regular f/t pinkies once a week.

Those two neonates look great. The bottom Tri-color has a great looking wide white band on it's head.

Feeding should'nt be a problem really. Tri-colors eat great in most cases. Like the other post suggested, I would brain the pinks first. I just stick a pin in the head of the pink then squeeze out the soft matter, and spread around on the noggin.
I would also start feeding them in a small type cup. Yougurt cup w/ lid works well. As long as it is small and dark. Leave together in cup for a couple of hours. That should do the trick.
If you have any problems, these can be addressed later.
Good luck.

It's good to hear from you. I have a pair of Lystrophis and have had pretty good luck with them. Shoot me an email if you have any questions. And don't resort to scenting! TraceHardin@Yahoo.com
