Argentine BCO, anyone have much experiance with these?

downhillbikin Feb 14, 2006 10:22 AM

I bought an Argentine at the Chicago show in Oct and was just wondering what people experiances with them have been like. I've read that they can be ill tempered when young, but can be one of the most docile boas when older. Is this true? Mine will hiss and strike ( but not bite ) if I reach in and pet him, but once I pick him up he's totally fine. When I try to put him down he grips my hand and tries to climb back up my arm. He's about 5 months old now. Thanks.

I don't know the answers, I have never had the good fortune to own a BCO. But I would love to one day. I have heard the same things as you have tho, and also they may still hiss even when they have been handled frequently and are otherwise more or less tame. How hard was it to get the CITES permit to own it? Love to see a pic too. They are so beautiful.

I bought a beautiful female Argentine from a wonderful breeder. That was at the Des Moine, Iowa, annual show last Sept. She was hissy for the first few months, but now is a real sweety. Always investigating at the front of the cage whenever I am in the snake room. She loves to crawl all over me and never attempts to strike at me, doesn't even hiss anymore. Be patient, handle yours regularly, and I'm sure you'll be pleased with his/her development.
