I use leaf litter for my water monitors, I have also used a mix of mulch, dirt and leaves. However if you want a clean cage I suggest you sell your monitor. Reality is they do not live in sterile enviroments.

If you have a large water tub in the cage you shouldn't have troubles with shedding. Water monitors will seek out and spend time soaking in water. If your having a hard time keeping humidity in the cage then you may have to much ventalation.

Explain or share pictures of your setup. Then we can all help you out more.

Do you collect your own or do you have a receipe of sorts? Just curious

I don't have the right type of leaves in my area. I have plenty of pines, palms, holly, citrus, and melalucas, but they dont work well. Oak leaves seem to work the best. Fortunatly I have found a supplier to get them from.

So I take it you purchase the items and make you own litter? Or do you just used said Oak leaves?

I have read about people making there own dirt and leaf litter just never from a real person, kinda curious about you success and failure.

haha I assume you mean the mixes many people put together from store bought items? I never had any luck mixing up any of that store bought stuff, top soil, peatmoss, sand, etc..

I purchase my oak leaves and have them shipped to me. The dirt or sand I use I either get from my yard, or purchase from the local nursery/landscapers.
