This information should be taken seriously, especially with larger breeders that use this stuff a lot.
I stop using the stuff years ago when it was rumoured hazardous, but now it’s official.
The contaminant is (amiante amphibolique) sorry don’t know the English name, its responsible for numerous lung cancer cases, both in humans and animals. Even limited exposure can lead to health hazard, sometime 10 years after exposure.

Health Canada suggest seeing a doctor if you think your at risk.

Ps my wife’s father died from being exposed to this while working in the mines, his cancer developed 18 years after exposure.

Don't the bags say something about the hazard of it? I'm not sure as i bought a bag last year for some chameleon eggs and I vaguely recall something about breathing it.
I now use perilite until something about that comes out.

The mine with the vermiculite with traces of asbestos closed down a long time ago. That was posted on their website several years ago.

I was quoting this from another persons response on another thread and was explaining the quote but had to go, did not think the post went through half finished. Sorry if I sounded rude.

No offense taken.

Asbestos can’t be extracted from vermiculate, doesn’t matter where it comes from.
It’s our responsibility to be careful when manipulating the stuff.

Of course you understand, vermic dust is very dangerous, and so is perlite dust. Well most fine dusts are to be avoided. Heck just read the instrustions.

Once wet, its not a problem. So when working with products that produce a fine dust, wear a dust mask, or not. Or flip a coin and see how long before the encapulated dust particules hinder your ability to breath. Or worse? those areas become cancerous. Hey, its their lungs, hahahahahahahaha. As lease it doesn't harm the monitors and thats what is important here. Thanks for bring this subject up. Cheers
