I was just wondering what the general opinion was on the best investment/ most beutiful boas were. I have several nice animals. Hypo's, sunglows, het sunglows, albino's, but I was thinking of getting into some of the new and possible more expensive animals. So if it were you what would you get if price wasn't an option? I really like jungles and motleys. I am also in love with T nics and the bloody salmon project. So what do you all think I should do next. Thanks for your opinions.

Some of those Morphs are Heterozygous traits, which take longer to get what you want. Some like the Motley and Jungle can be reproduced alot faster. I think the most beautiful of those in my opinion is the T postive Nic's that the Burkes have, they are Amazingly Beautiful. You can't really go wrong with any of those choices...Good luck.

For appearance I would go with arabesque and Leopards. For investments I would go the route of getting cd's through my bank.

I only wish I was having your delema right now...lol......why not just get them all!!! Seriously, I know that must be a hard choice...I would have to go with the Motley right now...but you watch those T positives....they are the wave of the future! Andy Federico

i would have to say my personal favorite is the motley. i love the way co-dominent genes work as well as the look of the animal. additionally they are still in the early stages and have not been combined with many other morphs, meaning if you do so you will make more money on them if that is the goal.
on the other hand, recessive mutations such as the t positive tend to hold their higher value much longer, and if you are willing to invest the time as well as money, they should prove to be a larger money maker.

i believe there is a large rush for certain combinations: anery t positive, albino homozygous motely, t positive homozygous motley. mainly there is a desire to produce a white boa for the most part.
there are lots of options and it all depends on your particular situation, but me personally i would love to work with the motley gene but will not have the finances for years to come so hopefully the arabesque gene will be in reach some time soon for me.

All of those are on "my list." But I have to say my first choice would be a jungle or amotley. Although the T nics and bloody salmons are awesome. Ya, don't ask me I can't even make up my own mind. Keep us posted with what you choose. Good luck.

I would wait until all the litters hit the ground this year and see what pops out because some new neat stuff may get produced this year. There may be Hypo/Snows produced and alot of breeders are mixing a bunch of different Morphs. I would wait to see if there is anything new first then decide. Good luck Scott Mid Atlantic Morphs

I think that if you are buying animals just to "turn a profit" you could possibly be in trouble. (No judgements here either way. Just my two cents.) It is an intelligent question to ask. Don't get me wrong.

Here's my reasoning. Breeding boas can be profitable at times. I would be crazy to say that people do not make a profit on their investments. But, that is not always true. This is just me cautioning you.
1)I have friends that have paid top dollar for some outstanding morphs only to have them die. That is a real hit.
2)There is no guarentee that they will breed for you. The odds are in your favor that they will. But, things do happen. You could potentially have a female that is mature and healthy only to have a unwilling male. Or, vice versa.
3)In my humble opinion, I think the market is getting a little "flooded". This is good for the consumer. It allows for more of a selection and competitive pricing.
4)Their are "fads" that come and go in our boa world. Somedays you will see Surinams all over the forum. Other times....Albinos. So, what's hot today could not be a big seller tomorrow. A perfect example of this is the hypo boa. A few years ago the hypos were the big morph to have. There were no Ghosts, Sunglows, Hypo Jungles, etc. Everyone and their mother was buying hypos. (Including me.) I knew when I was buying mine that the babies I would be producing would be a lot less then I paid for my hypo. That was fine with me. I bought the hypo because I wanted it.

There are many more things to think about before a big purchase. My biggest advice is this. Look at all the different types of boas. Learn about them and their genetics. Find out why certain animals are considered what they are. (Pastel boas are a perfect example. I am a huge pastel lover. But, I see so many "Pastels" being sold in the classifieds that I really feel are not pastels. (Buyer beware.) Jungles are another example. Some are from the original sweedish line. Others are labelled as jungles but are not. They are just abberant animals. Alas, I digress again.
Find something that makes you passionate. Buy that animal. Try to perfect that trait or bloodline. That way, if the market "sours" or if it's not the hot thing of the month.......It really doesn't matter. You have animals that you love and are passionate about. To me, that's what's really important.
Sorry for the spelling and grammer. It's late, and I'm not going to take the time to spell check, etc.
Best of luck with whatever you choose.
John
