Constipated Snake

Widdy Feb 14, 2006 09:15 PM

I have an 05 Anery that has eaten for the past three weeks. All three weeks it ate F/T Weaned or small rats, but it has yet to go to the bathroom. I have noticed him soaking in the water bowl for hours at a time but the rear part of the snake looks as if it is going to explode (not literally). I was wondering if there is anything that I can do to try to help him out. I have the temp in the cage in the low high 80's to low 90's.

Thanks

David

Some boas grow at a faster rate than others and he could be just growing like a weed. But if he looks like he is going to explode I would try soaking him in warm water. I would do this for a few days. If that doesn't work, take your thumb and gently try to see if you can feel anything hard close to the tail where you see the lump. If you do he is most likely constipated. You can either take him to the vet or try pushing it out yourself. Its hard to describe how forceful you should be. You have to push, but not too hard. I would try it myself gently and if it doesn't work take him to an experienced reptile vet. Keep in mind I am not a vet and these are just suggestions. I don't want you to hurt your snake. Good luck.
