Four eggs in belly HELP. Never Seen Before.

gko_reptiles Feb 14, 2006 09:57 PM

This SHTCTB has been breeding just fine for us. She is on her third clutch and due any day now. She is getting much calcium and looks really healthy while being bred. The first two clutches are doing just fine in the incubator. When I looked at her belly today she has two large eggs on the side and two smaller eggs in the middle. Its like she is developing shells on her fourth clutch while she still has not laid the third clutch yet. Is this egg-bounding? I have never seen anything like this. She is an awesome breeder and I want to catch this soon if its bad.

It's very normal for them to start developing the next clutch before they lay the last one. I would give her a few days to lay the larger eggs. If you notice the newer eggs getting much bigger before she lays I would take her to the vet. There really is not way from what I understand at this point to know for sure if she is egg bound without opening her up, but then you risk her health. The eggs can be safely removed and she may be able to breed again. But if that were to happen, I would cool her down so she has time to heal. She looks like she is going to pop any minute, I'd give her a little more time!

Here's a picture of one of my females pretty much the same way, you can see her next clutch developing in the center with her two eggs on either side that she is about to lay.

Keep us posted on how she is doing.
