Rattler ID?

anyone know the species / subspecies of this snake? It was crossing the hiking trail I was on while lost in the San Gabriel mountain in far eastern los angeles county--southern california. He looked happy and fat to me... lots of squirrels and chipmunks in the area.

Thats a BEUTIFAL C.v. Helleri (or whatever the taxonomy is right now) I was out in San Dimas today looking for one. Alas this is the first time a helleri has stayed out of my grasp when I've wanted to find one :/

raised to full species; in fact almost the entire C. viridis complex was elevated to full species in recent history.
