New incubator, suggestions wanted

winkle Feb 15, 2006 01:54 AM

I am going to convert this cooler into an incubator and would like suggestions on heating it. I was planning on using three strips of 11" flexwatt controlled by a helix as the heat source. I have thought about enclosing the flexwatt on the back of the unit and using fans at the top to draw the air in and across the heat tape and then fans at the bottom to help force the heated air back out into the incubator. I was also going to add either tubs of water or bottles of water to help maintain temps when one of the doors is opened. Any thoughts or suggestions would be great. The measurements of this soon to be incubator are 8 feet long, 43 inches deep and 6 feet 8 inches high. Thanks.......

Is this a cooler? Does it already have fans? If so, you might use them as a guide. Personally, I'd try a piece of 11" Flexwatt across the bottom and use fans to circulate the heat. Because of its size, you might also want to use some Flexwatt on the sides. Should make a nice incubator though.

I would suggest a forklift to move it. That thing must weigh a ton!!!

Were did you get that and where can i find one. I think im in heaven. The water tubs work really well, we use them in our incubatrs, just make sure that the water dosent evaporate too quickly or the humidity can spike over night, we had that happen last year, we caught it in time and fixed in but just something to keep an eye out for.
Good luck, looks great.
