TAME SAVANAH MONITOR

micky-kennie Jul 26, 2003 07:34 PM

I have had my savannah monitor for about a year and a half and have been trying to tame him (i'm pretty sure its a male) by handling him for breif periods of time, taking him outside to bask, and feeding him by hand (with tongs of course), but every time I go to pick him up it is the same old routine - tail whipping, hissing, mouth gaping, etc. I want to tame him before he gets too big, but it seems that I'm making limited progress. He is very healthy and eating a ton. Is there anything else I can do? Will he out grow this or will he always be like this? Any input or advice is greatly apreciated. Thanks!

Hey,
Lower his protiene intake and never feed live. And never show fear around them. If it whips, let it whip, if it bites let it bite. It will eventully give up trying to escape and let you have some time with it and then it might relieze your not a preditor but a friend.

Best wishes
