Nice Childrens Pythons

bsaffron Feb 15, 2006 01:14 PM

The anticipation that my light female was a morph was a rather
premature speculation. I must apologize for this mistake. I have recently
been more properly informed concerning the history of the parents to this nice
female.
In fact thats what she is, more than likely just a very nice female.

The reason being, her parents are assumed to be a pure blood line that were
direct imports from Australia to VPI. Since the early 80s (maybe 70’s) no childrens
pythons have been imported into the US from Australia except to a few zoo's
here and there and they sign contracts saying the offspring will not be
released to the public.

Heres a pic of the mother to my female.

Many of the childrens lines have been outcrossed with spotteds, because
early on they were all considered the same snake, just a little
different looking. I think VPI kept theirs pure, as far as they knew.

This is my likely impure male with my VPI female.

My female probably looks so nice because Im comparing it to an impure
blood line. (my dark male???)

I guess theres a good reason the other name for childrens python is the
"faded python".

It would be more appropriate to assume that the babies in this clutch may likely be rather light or rather dark.

Thank you to all for understanding. I truly had no intention of
misleading anyone. Was a little over zealous and now I stand corrected.

Thanks
Brendan

Nothing to apologize for and, frankly, I'm not sure you were incorrect. Certainly blonde, patternless Children's pythons are not common in the US. I think you could get a premium for off spring that look like her.

It would be interesting to see what happens if you cross the offspring or cross one of the offspring back to the mother. You might also want to contact VPI and see what they have to say.

Can you tell I really like her?

I agree with you that it is possible I might produce something nice through this female. My guess is I might be able to produce some lighter colored snakes with linebreeding at best. If there realy is anything super special about her then a wise breeder would keep it to himself until he knows 100% for sure before asking more money for offspring.
I do feel a little sheepish for getting too excited too soon. Integrety is very important to me and I realize that I could very easily ruin a reputation that I dont even have by making a big deal about an unproven project. I certainly dont want a negative lable when I havent even gotten my name out yet.
This year will be my first semi big year for a lot of my morph projects and I take pride in the stuff that I look forward to producing this summer so hopefuly Ill get around a little.

I should point out that my light female was not born patternless. On the contrary she had just as much pattern as the next although my buddy who produced her said he does occasionaly get a very light colored baby or even near patternless but they are sold as normals.

I probably shouldnt refer to her as a blonde either since that does give conotation that she is something more than a normal. Even if she was something more it wouldnt be appropoe to refer to her as such until it is proven. And more than likely I might only be able to produce more light colored normals like her at best.
