Thanks for all this talk of Quince monitors. The one person wrote that they were excited to be getting a baby in the first post below. That started a flame war, which is only made possible by non-face-to-face talk of the internet chat room. I have only read a few lines of a few of the posts. It got me thinking of how rude these posters would be if they were face to face and not hundreds or thousands of miles apart typing to each other. Then I got to thinking of what Quince monitors are really like. I have decided to get a pair or trio of Quince to find out for myself. Thanks for getting me wondering about it!!!

On second thought, I really don't give a $#!%. I do care about people's experiences with keeping, breeding, and caring for "THEIR MONITORS".

PS. I wish I could give these oak leaves to you guys that buy them. I have been raking them since fall.

I kept 4 of them for about a year. They are similar in care to doreanus, mangroves, or peachies.
They are escape artists, of the 6 species of monitors I kept in exactly the same type of cage, they were the only ones to escape. They burn more easily than other species if not set up properly. I was never bitten by one but I'm sure they crapped on me, as every other monitor I've owned has.
Their biggest draw back is empty cage syndrome, they are always hiding, much like timors. I would get a species that is less shy, unless you like looking at an empty cage.

Good Luck

I haven't worked with them, but I have handled them and visited people who work with them. I found them to be much like other indicus type monitors. At one keepers place I was told check them out they do not bite. I reached in and out flew a crazy monitor ready to bite me. So much for not biting. They are beautiful monitors. Some people may do well with them. But IMO they are not all that much different from mangroves, peachthroats, or bluetails. So I would not recommend them to a first time monitor owner nor would I call them great captives that do not bite.

BTW bag up them leaves toss them in a box and ship um my way. Just email me for my information.

How are things going with the dumerils? Do you let them play in the leaves?

Thanks for being a voice of reason. Sometimes that's kinda rare.

I still can't figure out what the problem was. If someone wants to keep or sell melinus, go for it. He asked for opinions, he got them. Plain and simple.

To think everyone will agree with anyone is very very naive. I don't care what you say or how you say it, someone will take offense or difference to it. You know, much like any group of people in any walk of life.

You know one meaning of the word offense is, a straying from the righeousness path. How funny. How that fits here is, its offensive to be different, have different experiences, different opinions, or even have different monitors, hahahahahahahahahaha Its all being normal humans. We offend eachother. Cheers

Now I am lmao right now! What you said is so true, and this has been funny for me as I think at how true the face to face would be.
