Mites - behind in my reading

scales53 Feb 15, 2006 08:22 PM

Just read the post about mites from earlier thi month. Had a customer whose snake had mites and found something on the python forum about soaking the snake in vegetable oil then rinsing. It seems to have worked. Has anybody used this method?

I've seen it done, but you have to coat the snake in oil as you are attempting to suffocate the mites. It won't have any effect on any eggs on the animal itself and is messy. I think luke warm water and your hand does just as well, especially with a blood that won't spring out of your hand like other snakes. That way you can see what you're doing and just keep washing the enclosure and the snake and you should be fine.
