From mating to eggs..how long?

tc_legacy Feb 15, 2006 09:13 PM

Hello,

My blizzard pair bred on Jan. 26th. I had follicle graded the female and she looked ready so I introduced her to my male for 24 hours and I witnessed a successful mating. However, we're nearing the 4 wk mark since the mating and she hasn't laid. I wasn't sure how long it took from mating for the females to lay... Any thoughts?

It should be close. Can you see the eggs in her abdomen? Also, are you sure the mating was successfull? Like humans, not every mating works perfectly with only one try. Just try and see if you can see the eggs through her little tummy and make sure to provide a good nest site, and check it multiple times a day.

I keep my groups together year round and just check my females every few days for developing eggs. When I see them I know to be ready.
