morphed Feb 16, 2006 09:08 AM

Just curious to see who has what for breeding season this year. How many adult females does everyone have? How many are gravid? ovulating?Eggs yet? Just curious. thought it would be interesting to see where everyone is so far.

7 girls paired up, 4 with a pastel, 1 with a black stripe, 1 with a het ghost and 1 with a het pied. Also since my other yearling is now up to weight we tossed the het pied in with her just to see and they did lock up but not holding my breath on her. One girl we think ovulated on Valentines day but not really sure, we'll see if she sheds by month end.

So far my pastel male has bred 6 girls. One laid eggs (8 good-1 slug), 1 ovulated on 1-22-06 and has had her Pre-egg laying shed. She felt like she had 4 follicles. On the other 4 I have not felt any follicles growing.

My het. albino males have bred 3 females. One (normal) has 6 very large follicles, she could ovulate any day. On the other 2 (1 het. albino & 1 normal), I do not fell any follicles.

The males are still breeding like crazy and it is still early.

We had 8 females that made size this year but decided to only breed 4 of them - plus I got 3 on loan to breed to my albino since my hets didn't make size. Out of the seven - five of them have ovulated and we are looking forward to eggs mid-march.

This was supposed to be our first real year breeding but we decided to keep it real simple. We are planning to move in a few months and didn't want to have to move a bunch of eggs - and I didn't want to be one of those people that breeds their pastel to 6 girls just for the money or produce a bunch of possibles that no one has use for - I'd rather give them another year and use them for some real projects next season.

Sounds like everyone is doing well so far this year. I totally agree with not trying to move around to many females. We need to build a larger room for our balls but we are holding off on construction till all the eggs have hatched this season. We are having a really early year this year, i think it was due to a few large storms we had back in Oct, so i just wanted to see where everyone is standing as of this time in the season. We actually decided to run 2 cycles this season. Our first cycle is finishing now, most girls are ovulating or already have, i think there was 82 in total, now we are just starting to fully cool down our second cycle which is a smaller group of about 24. Most of these girls were under 1100 grams going into the season so we kept them warmer and kept them feeding for the extra few months. I hope everyones season goes well, i cant wait till eggs start hatchng im so impatient, its like christmas!!
Good luck to all this season.

Tosha, please explain what you was trying to say?

"and I didn't want to be one of those people that breeds their pastel to 6 girls just for the money or produce a bunch of possibles that no one has use for"

Pastels bred to normals makes pastels or normals, not possibles? Or did I miss something?
