Broken jaw

sun_king Feb 16, 2006 11:36 AM

Anyone know what to do about a broken jaw in a boa. It is her upper right jaw. And before everyone starts jumping up and down she has an appt on Saturday. Went to vet when it happened and got antibiotics to get rid of the infection but missed the broken bone. Anything that the vet can do. I assume plan will be to not feed her for some time to let the bone mend. Or is this going to lead the euthanasia?

Broken bones will heal on their own. Euthanasia is not the automatic choice. What's done will partly depend on how bad the break is, of course. My guess is that the vet will need to take X-rays to see just how bad it is. Good luck.

It is a nice clean brake so the vet thinks we are looking at good odds for recovery. Still taking her in tomorrow to get looked at.

Boid Jaws have many hinges and the jaw joints ar emade to dislocate. A pic would help big time but it is possible that the joint is dislodged and not broken. Infection can gang up on a dislocated jaw joint rather then the bone actually being broken. Boid jaws are very flexible and difficult to break. Make sure you get an x- ray to determine that it is a what you think it is. It may also just be an abscess.. Get it to a vet.. Take some pics to ok...Pics speak vo;umes sometimes good luck bro
