I recently inquired whether my 4 year old male stopped taking f/t mice because they had gone bad. Well I changed the mice and he still will not eat. Interestingly he has been VERY active, just not hungry. Can't figure out why. Any advice?

Since it is a male, I am going to have to say its the time of year. He has breeding on the mind, not food. Even if he has never seen a female, it happens. If you are overly concerned, see a vet. How long has it been since his last meal?

Males will sometimes go on a starvation binge while they're looking for a springtime mate. I've heard of males who've gone as long as 4 months without eating to no ill effect. Unless he starts looking skinny or listless, I wouldn't worry. Just keep offering him food every two to three weeks till he decides he's hungry again.

That's what i was suspecting as well. I figured that he has reached sexual maturity now. It has been about 4 weeks since he ate. Thanks all.
one of my corns is at least 3 and he does the same thing. so far he is eating but he has been on hunger strikes and very restless in the past. lasted probably 6-8 weeks. then he started to eat again
my 7 foot, @4 year old male jungle carpet python has been on hunger strike since december. he started in sept with not eating, restless. he ate in december and hasn't eaten since. he looks ok weight wise.
snakes are just amazing that they can go that long without food.
..ok.he is probably just hunting girls....not food...
and check the snakes.I have just started breeding corns for the year....and I have a female that hasn't eaten in a couple weeks......so I finally palpated her a little and YES she is loaded with eggs and I probably have missed her this time around......I usually don't like to miss them at all........
so...check them and start breedings.......I didn't think they started yet.........
my room had been running high on temps for the balls sake......

are they really?.....wow
With all of Jimmy's hook-ups, everyone should realize that they do breed this time of year.
I only plan on putting my females with my males specifically to breed, so I do not end up with unknown eggs. I did not house them together to warm up. And I would definitely not recommend it if you don't plan to breed, even if you do not brumate them. Another good example against the co-habitation.
Although it sounds like you wanted to breed them eventually, but are just surprised at the earliness? I hope I read your post correctly. I am Not trying to be condescending, so I hope it is not taken that way. Just my opinion.

Ya, it is nice to save some money while they are all in brumation. You save on the heating, feeding, money and time. Today is the day that I do all the extras that I don't do all week. Mine are all out of brumation (one female is in white ready to shed!!). Lots of cleaning, feeding, watering...I'm sure everyone knows the drill, except I have 30 snakes, plus lizards, two parrots, and other creepy crawlies.
Side note...I change the water every other day and feed every 5 days or so. This is just the extras on top of the normal feeding, watering, that takes me most of the day.

yes.,anything can happen.....
yes I breed......for years and years and years...LOL
.......I used to brumate and bring them up in Jan to breed like last week in Jan ....so I could get early babies and actually sell stuff ........now I just let them breed when I think they want to........I missed one at least...
I spend all winter breeding ball pythons....so I hate to do corns at the same time....too much like work......
balls are done....corns start........and mice are an all year pain.........
......I get maybe 700 eggs a year?.......

impressive little venture you have there. If I ever had that many snakes breeding, I'd probably make it my full time job. I know that you do not make a lot of money on corns (generally only what you put in to them I imagine), so I would keep a part time job. I would imagine things are a little demanding of your time at your scale. I think I will stick with corns and small snakes.
