SNOWBALL PICS!!!

MillenniumMorphs Jul 26, 2003 09:19 PM

Here is a picture our first snowball we have produced here at Millennium Morphs! He is absolutely amazing. There has been a lot of talk about the Jolliff Line axanthics and I have never agreed with what has been said. I personally think the Jolliff Axanthic is one of the nices Axanthics out there. They are almost all genetically banded to some degree and most have excellent color. This little guy so far is almost solid white. The pattern does not even appear on him at all. Take a look at this little gem and let me know what you guys think. We produced him by breeding our 100% DH snow male to our Axanthic poss. Het albino female. She had given us 6 eggs and 5 were slugs. 1 egg was cone shaped and discolored. I put it in our incubation room and hoped for the best. 2 weeks before hatching it started to develope some green mold. I was very close to throwing the egg in the garbage, but decided against it. Saturday night 7-19-03 I had come home from dinner engagements and checked the incubator room. I spotted the solid white head of the snowball sticking out of the egg and almost s**t myself. I was amazed. So out of 1 egg we had produced a SNOWBALL! I usually do not have much luck, if any at all.. But on this little guy I guess I had a horse shoe up my a*s. Well here he is, and to all who have doubed the Jolliff SNOW please take a good look and reconsider.

Thanks to all!!! Have a great day!!!

Thanks again!

As far as I know, there are five Snowballs. Where are the pix of what they currently look like?? Are people embarassed their Snowballs are not pink-eyed Leucistics? I guess so. Makes no sense to me. Ralph seems to be the only one to post recent pix. Let's hope he takes them both to Daytona & neither are in shed. They are different but both are beautiful.

It would be nice if all the snows could be posted. Including VPI & SK. I think direct sun of a photo of the sides and of the top view would show the intensity of the yellow. I doubt if the yellow will disappear.

They all have distinguishable patterns, be it yellow or pink or whatever. I would be willing to bet the amount of yellow will vary in all snow balls, VPI, SK and Joliff. We haven't seen enough individuals to make a judgement yet, in my opinion. This is all just beginning. Very exciting stuff!

I have read all the arguments over whose line is best and this and that. I think we should focus on the fact that we have 3 lines(established, 4 with Corey's beautiful Red Axanthics), to work with and we should use these animals to help improve on what has been produced instead of worrying about which line is better than the other. It's like saying apples are better than oranges. They're not. They both contribute to our health in different ways. Hopefully, the refining of each Axanthic line, or even a combination of Axanthic lines will make the Snow that we all hope to see one day. Until then, the ones I have seen so far are absolutely amazing! Congrats again guys, beautiful animal!

I'm not too good at learning the genetics side of the breeding, but can you explain (the easy way) the difference between this snake and an albino? I don't get it....

The Het mixes and stuff... it's all over my head....

thanks. great work! what a beauty!!

Hey there. Thanks for the kind words.

As far as the difference, the Snow Ball Python is different from an Albino in that it is also exhibiting the Axanthic trait. The Axanthic trait is simple-recessive (as is Albino) and lacks generally all yellow. A perfect Axanthic would have absolutely no yellow (in Ball Pythons it is typically a gray and black snake). When you look at an Albino Ball Python, the only colors you see other than the red in the eyes is yellow and white. So if you add Axanthic into the mix, that yellow is taken away, resulting in a two-tone white snake with red eyes. As far as acheiving the Snow Ball, one must breed an Axanthic and an Albino together, producing Double Het. for both Axanthic and Albino (these babies appear completely normal). Then you would breed a pair of the Double Het. for Axanthic and Albinos together, and 1 in 16 will exhibit both Axanthic and Albino at the same time, or the Snow.

Hope this helps!
